Iakwe and welcome to the MIMRA website!

I am pleased to write on the critical role that emerging technologies play in our ongoing efforts to sustainably manage the rich marine resources of the Pacific. At the Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority (MIMRA), we recognize the significant challenges posed by the complex dynamics of our oceans, including overfishing and illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing activities. As we strive to ensure the long-term health and vitality of our fisheries, we are embracing innovative technologies to strengthen our capabilities and enhance our impact.

The Pacific region's fisheries are not only vital for the livelihoods and food security of our communities but also for the preservation of our unique marine ecosystems. The responsible management of these resources requires a multifaceted approach that leverages the power of technology to monitor, analyze, and respond to changes in our oceans, as well as understand the behavior of fish stocks, ocean currents, and climate patterns.

In this context, this website is one of many testaments to MIMRA’s commitment to transparency, accessibility, and efficiency in fisheries management.

In MIMRA’s evolving journey to incorporate new technologies, we are committed to ongoing research and development, fostering partnerships with academia, private sector entities, and international partners, to not only to protect our fisheries today but also to adapt to the changing dynamics of our oceans and ensure their vitality in the years to come.

In conclusion, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all our stakeholders, partners, and dedicated team members who contribute to our technological advancements and fisheries management initiatives. Through the fusion of traditional knowledge and cutting-edge technologies, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for the Pacific region.

Sincerely,

Glen Joseph
