Job Title: KAFMC Maintenance Officer I

Position Location: Ebeye, Kwajalein Atoll Fish Market Center (KAFMC)

Duration: Two-year contract with a 6-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Maintenance Officer I (1 position) at KAFMC. Full time (48 hours per week)

Purpose: The Maintenance Officer is responsible for the upkeep and repair of the Kwajalein Atoll Fish Market Center (KAFMC) facility, equipment, and community fishing boats. The role requires physical stamina, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage multiple task, including emergency repairs and routine maintenance.

Position Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Perform daily maintenance to ensure all facilities and equipment are in excellent working condition, with a focus on timely resolution of maintenance issues.
  • Maintain a schedule for preventive maintenance and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Report to the Operation Manager and Chief Maintenance, coordinating maintenance schedules and tracking job completion times.
  • Assist in marketing, processing, and value-adding activities related to fish products when maintenance task are complete.
  • Be flexible and available for emergency situations as needed.

Education/Experiences: 

  • Candidates should be possess relevant certificates or 5 years of general maintenance experience.
  • Essential skills include equipment maintenance, effective communications, troubleshooting, time management, and quality control analysis.
  • Proficiency in English and Marshallese is required, along with personal attributes such as honesty, respectfulness, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Experience in troubleshooting facility equipment, carpentry, and following equipment, carpentry, and following blueprints is necessary.

Invitation for the recruitment of CA Inspector (Fish Food Safety Inspectors)

A. Objectives


The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) through MIMRA currently exports fish and fishery products to the USA, Thailand and Taiwan among the main market players. Recently and importantly the intention to diversify its exports to the European Union (EU) market.

The establishment of the RMI Competent Authority (RMI CA) has the purpose of improving RMI sanitary controls of fish exports whilst at the same time meeting the EU export market standards and requirements.


The Competent Authority (CA) job will require substantial commitment in order to fulfil very important regulatory roles/functions on behalf of the Authority and the State. Thus, MIMRA is seeking committed applicants, with the necessary qualification, experience and skills set whilst at the same time is willing to learn new skills and knowledge and to take on responsibilities.


The CA Inspector (Fish Food Safety Inspectors) recruited will be required to carry out the work as outlined but not limited in the Scope of Work.

 

B. Scope of Work


To meet the objectives, the Competent Authority officers, among other functions will be
required to undertake the following or participate in;


1) Be required to work with the CA advisor to draw up the CA yearly work plan.
2) Participate in the CA budgetary budget planning and process.
3) Undertake inspection and verification of the fish processing plants, landing sites and fishing vessels.
4) Evaluate performance of the fish processing operations intending to process and export for the EU and other markets.
5) Provide reports to inspections and issue infringements or non - compliance notices as per established protocols.
6) Undertake and submit samples for analysis.
7) Attend trainings for additional knowledge and skill set as required of the work.
7) Participate in vessel boarding, monitoring, inspection and sampling when required
8) Validate Health Certificate and products prior to approval for exports
9) Modify certificates to incorporate the national and international import/export certification requirements.
10) Liaise and assist other colleagues with catch and compliance data
11) Keep records and update all the exports into the MIMRA data base
12) Participate in meetings and trainings as required for learning and upskilling for the CA work and for the broader work of the CA and in fisheries.
13) Participate in Laboratory evaluations for testing purposes of RMI fish products

14) Participate in any National Food Safety tasks initiative and contribute meaningfully.
16) Participate in the development and review of Regulatory Instruments such as Standards, and Operating Protocols.
17) Provide reports of inspections carried out and organize a timely follow-up.
19) Work with the CA advisor to produce reports and annual reports as required by MIMRA Management.
20) Perform other work as delegated by the CA advisor or as requested of the CA officer.

C. Key Qualification /Experience/Traits


1. Qualification
- Educational Qualification with minimum, Bachelor of Science (Food, Chemistry,
Biology), Food Law, Environmental Science and similar related disciplines.
- Proficient in Excel, Word and can produce quality reports.
- Educational and communication language in English.


2. Required Experience
- Experience in the Fisheries industry and or environment, Food industry or in Environmental Health dealing with food manufacturing and export.
- Understand export market requirements.
- Has worked in a regulatory environment and understand the requirements for seafood exports.


3. Desirable Traits
- Commands good/excellent communication skills
- Required language of education and employment is English
- Food Science, Food Technology and or Food Law Qualification
- Experience in regulatory or manufacturing environment dealing with fish exports
- Understands export market requirements
- Willing to learn, is committed to his or her work.

Purpose: 

The Director of Sustainability is responsible for advancing PITPs sustainability objectives and supporting the company and its members in their ambitions to revolutionize the tuna industry through new, higher environmental and social standards which catalyze market and supply chain transformation. The Director of Sustainability will be responsible for refinement, implementation, and monitoring of PITPs sustainability and social policies and procedures and ensures that our supply chain lives up to the Company’s best in-class standards. They will serve as the lead voice on sustainability for the company in customer, supplier, and Pacific Island partner engagements. They will be responsible for creating and
implementing the necessary systems, processes, and actions necessary to meet all Key Performance Indicators that are required by our customer(s) and other stakeholders.

The Director of Sustainability will be responsible for creating communications products, including Impact Reports, which document and highlight PITPs progress towards its sustainability, social, and market transformation outcomes. The Director of Sustainability will work directly with 3 rd party service providers, cross-functional customer contacts, internal and external stakeholders as required for managing the various ongoing commitments.

This is an ideal role for someone who is 1) as passionate as we are about environmental, social, sustainability and providing benefits to Pacific Island resource owners, as this is the back bone of our company, 2) willing to lead and participate in detail oriented discussions with customers/key stakeholders about the specific focus areas of improvement, and 3) is accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment and is aligned with a high sense of urgency in executing our sustainability initiatives and awareness across broad channels of communication and 4) familiar and comfortable with working cross functionally within a diverse organization (internally and externally) to achieve sustainability initiatives within the Tuna industry

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

Primary Focus Areas and Activities

  • Refinement and implementation of company policies, processes, procedures, systems to ensure that PIT’s sustainability covenants, labor, and socioeconomic policies are upheld and objectives are met.
  • Develop, maintain, and manage key relationships with PNA and other Pacific Island partners for broader regional sustainability, market transformation, and development opportunities including the East New Britain Initiative.
  • Developing, tracking and reporting on the progress of labor and sustainability KPIs internally and externally.
  • Supporting PITP and Members in sourcing, review, and selection of place-based projects from the sustainability distribution.
  • Developing communications products and impact reporting on PITPs environmental and social products.
  • Participate and present at key customer and stakeholder meetings.
  • Manage Electronic Monitoring programs on vessels including review of trip reports and working with fishing partners on corrective actions as necessary.
  • Participate in all Seafood Taskforce related activities focusing on addressing human rights, labor and recruitment issues for at-sea and land-based workers in the tuna supply chain.
  • Support the onboarding of Pacific Island partners as new members of PITP.
  • Represent and promote PIT’s sustainability objectives at RFMO and other Pacific regional meetings.

Administrative Task and Other requirements

  • Track and document required tasks and deliverables by customers for SOP development.
  • Timely completion of required actions items with best-in-class response times and follow-up.
  • Internal oversight of the data management systems for sustainability and placed based initiatives.

 

Who we're looking for:

  • 10+ years’ experience in sustainability and/or tuna fishery management
  • Alignment with shared values and PITP mission
  • Established relationships with NGOs and Governmental tuna fisheries managers
  • Familiarity with international labor standards for at-sea and land-based workers
  • Private sector experience in the tuna supply chain preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to foster positive business and Pacific partner relationships
  • High sense of urgency with a need to get things done.
