- Laboratory Manager
Agency: Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority
Position Location: MIMRA Laboratory, Delap, Majuro Atoll
Duration: Two-year contract with a 6-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation.
Purpose: To manage the development and operation of the National Marine Environmental Laboratory (covering Chemical, Microbiology, and Radiation sub-laboratories) to ensure the safety of RMI's fisheries resources.
Position Responsibilities/Duties:
- Lead and/or contribute to national and regional projects undertaken by MIMRA.
- Ensure all required information and support from the Laboratory is available and used for implementing projects.
- Report directly to the Executive Director.
- Demonstrate excellence in staff management (supervision, performance management, capacity development, conflict resolution).
- Possess well-developed skills in policy formulation, planning, and implementation.
- Maintain the ability to multi-task with strong time and stress management skills.
- Comfortable working with diverse people in international, regional, and community settings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality, honesty, and integrity.
Education/Experiences:
- Must have a degree from a recognized college or university in environmental science/management or a related field.
- Must have demonstrated experience as a manager.
- Must have at least 5 years' experience in fisheries or a related field.
Skill:
- Excellent understanding of public sector management, including budget management and reporting.
- Excellent skills in leadership and organization for effectiveness.
- Knowledgeable on the regulatory environment of MIMRA (MIMRA Act, regulations, etc.).
- Must have excellent communication skills (writing, public speaking).
- Must be able to speak English and Marshallese, with good written English., as well as formulation and implementation of policies, plans and procedures
