Duration: Two-year contract with a 6-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension subject to performance evaluation.
PURPOSE
Purpose: MIMRA is seeking reliable and experienced individuals to serve as Custodians of the Arno, Arno Fishbase and Aur Atoll Fishbase. The Custodians will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, hygiene, and maintenance of MIMRA Fisbase Facilities, equipment, and project-owned boats. This role is vital for supporting sustainable coastal fisheries by coordinating with local fishermen, ensuring product quality, and maintaining a functional link between Arno Atoll, Aur Atoll and the Outer Island Fish Market Center or OIFMC.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Facility & Equipment: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the fish base; perform routine maintenance on ice machines, freezers, and generators.
- Vessel Maintenance: Ensure project-owned community fishing boats remain operational and seaworthy.
- Fish Operations: Coordinate fish collection with local fishermen; oversee sorting, weighing, and purchasing based on strict quality and size standards.
- Financial Accountability: Manage the "Fish Fund" jointly with vessel captains; accurately log all fuel, gear, and supply distributions.
- Community Liaison: Act as a bridge between the project and local fishers, traditional leaders, and local government.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
- 2–3 years in fisheries operations, fish purchasing, or facility maintenance.
SKILLS
- Proficiency in basic mechanical troubleshooting; strong numerical skills for financial recordkeeping; fluent in English and Marshallese.
