MAJURO - The Mid-Term Review (MTR) Consultation for the World Bank’s RMI PROPER Project commenced with a warm welcome to Ms. Kirsty Burnett and Mr. Ian Cartwright. Director Glen Joseph extended his appreciation to the MTR team for their visit and continued support.
In his opening remarks, Director Joseph reflected on the progress made over the past decade, noting that while significant advancements have been achieved, there remains considerable work ahead. He emphasised that the fisheries sector in the Republic of the Marshall Islands has evolved substantially, both in its institutional capacity and its contribution to national development.
Director Joseph also highlighted a key distinction in the role of the Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority (MIMRA) compared to other government agencies. Unlike many agencies, MIMRA operates with a strong fiscal mandate, generating revenue for the country while simultaneously ensuring the sustainable management of marine resources. This dual responsibility shapes MIMRA’s engagement with the World Bank under the PROPER Project.
The consultation provided an opportunity for open dialogue, reflection, and forward-looking discussions on strengthening program implementation and achieving long-term development outcomes for the fisheries sector. The consultations will be from April 20 to 24, 2026.
