Signing of Minutes of Discussions on the Preliminary Results of Field Survey (#1) for Confirmation of Basic Design Condition for the Fisheries Research and Monitoring Vessel

Majuro, Republic of the Marshall Islands — The Marshall Islands Marine Resources Authority (MIMRA) and the Shipbuilding Research Center of Japan (SRC) have formally signed the Minutes of Discussions on the Preliminary Results of the Field Survey (#1) for the Confirmation of Basic Design Conditions for the Fisheries Research and Monitoring Vessel. The document was signed by Ms. Berry Muller, Acting Director of MIMRA, and Mr. Yoshio Isozaki, Team Leader of the Shipbuilding Research Center of Japan.

This cooperative initiative is implemented under Japan’s Grant Aid for the Economic and Social Development Programme, titled “The Economic and Social Development Programme (Fishery Research Vessel)”. The programme aims to promote sustainable fisheries development in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI)— where fisheries play an essential role in economic growth and livelihood—by providing a fisheries research vessel and related equipment to monitor changes in the volume and distribution of marine resources sustainably.

The Fisheries Research and Monitoring Vessel is expected to be completed in the summer of 2028. Once operational, it will greatly enhance RMI’s capacity for scientific research, resource monitoring, and fisheries management, further strengthening the sustainable development of the country’s marine resources.
